Since kicking off Carnival season with the Joan of Arc parade earlier this month, New Orleans' parade season is beginning to heat up.
You see, Carnival is the celebratory time leading up to Mardis Gras, aka Fat Tuesday, and last weekend the adult-themed and satirical Krewe du Vieux parade rolled through the French Quarter, inaugurating the upcoming weeks of parties and parades.
Although notorious as an elaborate fete for adults there are many family friendly ways to revel with the best Mardis Gras goers right here in our beloved city of New Orleans.
In fact, this Friday and Saturday is the 11th annual free 2-day event, Family Gras.
Held on the neutral ground side, aka "median", of Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Family Gras will host performances by famous musicians like John Oates of Hall and Oats and Grammy award winning Cyndi Lauper, an imaginative Kids Court with face painting and hand-wax art, and it creates a space for families to cozy up and catch beads as the Krewe of Excalibur rolls directly in front of them.
Wherever your Mardis Gras adventures may lead, MissArtemiss wishes you a festive and safe celebration.
